Nana Plaza
Nightlife in Bangkok and Thailand in general can be overwhelming for the uninitiated. While Patpong is the infamous red light district of Bangkok it is no longer the biggest or most travelled, too many gangs, rip of merchants and basic thuggery goes on in Patpong, while Nana Plaza is equally well known it doesn't have the reputation of scam shows that Patpong is known for. There is no market no t-shirt salesmen, just Go Go bars for days.
As you can see from the above picture of Nana Plaza you can see how busy it is. The plaza has a small entrance that leads into a large courtyard with three levels. The courtyard is filled with your basic beer bar while the surrounding levels and shops are all go go bars filled with young Thai women gyrating themselves to western pulsing music.
This is not a family attraction, most of the people who come here are single and married men, do not bring children OK! This is an adults playground, while most of the crowd is men there are a lot of female visitors now as well. Most foreign women wouldn't go see this sort of thing in their own country but the curiosity leads them here in Bangkok. I think most people who come to Thailand want to see some sort of show from the go go dancers. Perhaps it's human nature.
There are many well known bars inside nana plaza but mostly if your not a local you should just try any. Don't go to any bars in the back of the plaza as these are mostly fill with Thai ladyboys, unless of course that's something your into.
Getting To Nana Plaza
To go to Nana plaza take the sky train and get of at Nana, you want to go up the street to Soi 4 go into Soi 4 about 20 meters and you'll see it, can't miss it. Also just look for the Nana Hotel can't miss it. Most people who want to visit Nana typically get a room across at the Nana hotel, but don't do this on a spare of the minute decision as getting a room there can be difficult it's booked out every night.
A small correction, Nana Plaza is in Soi 4 and not in Soi 6
Thanks this page needs updated I think it was one of the first ones I ever wrote!
