KTM Thailand Price Guide 2013
Don't be surprised if you've never heard of KTM in Thailand. It's not exactly a popular road bike among Thais but these are very popular for supermoto fans. The problem with KTM Thailand is they only have stock of a few of the models. KTM in Austria has dozens more models even small 125 CC I'm told you can pretty much order whatever you want. But expect long delays.
KTM isn't cheap, and probably not a bike many would consider riding here and over the next few days i'll release the details and price guides from other bike companies like Honda Kawasaki and Ducati. KTM is expensive and not just because it's imported. In fact all their bikes are imported from Austria however the little 200 cc bike which I've taken some photos of is made in India. If it's made in India it's still 200k baht this is because it uses high quality pieces.

Personally I like the look of the naked bikes and the the small 200 would be perfect around the city. I went for a quick spin on the 200 because the Duke 690 was sold out (it's a cool looking bike). I was surprised by the weight was only 130kg so it was light enough and small enough to get around traffic in the city.

When you look at the price difference between other bikes in it's class you're probably never going to buy it because you don't' get as much bang for your buck but for supermoto fans should be pleased there's now a dealership in Chiang Mai.

Was looking at these last week in Phnom Penh, much cheaper especially for the bigger bikes. Even the duke 200 which has no import tax in thailand but sells for nearly 7k us$ is going for under 5k us$ in PP. Most of the bigger bikes are nearly half the retail price and KTM Cambodia has up to 25% off sales regularly so if you’re buying a dirtbike and don’t need to register it in thailand then it’s all worth the effort to buy it in PP and bring it back on a temporary import, ship it home and then ride it.
For a street bike you’d still save some good money but might not be worth the effort to register it an cambodia then import then pay the 80% import tax in thailand. But on sale the 690 SMCR can be had for 9k us$ compared to 700k bht (23k us$). Check out the KTM forum on http://www.rideasia.net for all the good bits. Keep an eye out for the new 390 duke, gonna be the best all around KTM for cruising around town and good enough for some day trips.
BTW, in India the duke 200 sells for 63k bht and the duke 390 will be going for 93k bht! So KTM thailand is pricing the 200 at more than three times the india retail price, and probably almost five times their purchase cost. It’s not as bad for the ex-europe bikes, only about four times the purchase cost…still takin the piss here bro
I’d probably buy a cb500x for around 200k bht, less headches in the end too!
Interesting bit: The Duke 200 is less than 2,000 USD in India.
Thinking about spending a little time in Goa, mostly just to buy one of those and romp it around. Why not, for 2k, right?

Thailand has a free trade agreement with India for bikes under 250cc so really the taxes should be minimal. I think Triumph also uses this agreement to ship some bikes fron chonburi to India. KTM Thailand is just trying to brand itself as a luxury brand while the company itself is moving towards mass distribution of their smaller bikes with its partnership with Bajaj India.
