Where to live around Nimmanhaemin Road
Nimmanhaemin Road in Chiang Mai is what I like to call the "Thai Tourist Area" while Tapae has the "Farang Tourists" Nimman has the Thai tourists. And while most of the younger Thai tourists might not stay on Nimman they do party there. Nimman for short is a fashionable district full of bars, pubs, clubs and coffee shops everywhere. It's the place to see and be seen and one of the best places to live in Chiang Mai due to it's location and fabulous selection of restaurants. The Nimman area is home to the best Nightlife in Chiang Mai however you'll probably feel out of place if you're not with a group of Thai's.

The Unique
This place has some great 1 bedroom units has great facilities and excellent security. The rooms are offered privately from the owner of the Unit and a typical 50sqm apartment is about 17,000 baht a month. Expect to pay more for better views higher up. This is a great place to live walking distance to everything Nimman has to offer. Perfect as a long term rental. This apartment I can see having a good resale value and rental rates for the astute investor. Check out their promo video.
The Empire
This place is more like a hotel which has more like a New York appeal to it. If you're only in town a few days I recommend staying here it's very quite and rooms are very well appointed. Check out their site here. The rooms are good here and although I don't recommend long term because you can get a better place for less in the same area they do have great parking. For the Tech savvy startup i recommend the Empire offices with great internet access and 40 baht a square meter their offices for rent are a great choice.

MP Place
The only real piece of cheap accomodation around Nimman. MP place is 5000 baht a month for a 6months lease, rooms are typically full so you need to arrange to stay here way in advance.

Punna Residence
While I personally don't like the construction of the Punna Residence I must admit they do have good locations and the rooms are excellent. Punna on Nimman has some very good apartments on the ones in Nimman but I would only stay there for the top floor rooms with views of the mountains and the clubs in Prasertland. The following video isn't of one of those rooms unfortunately but it's 2 bedroom for 35,000 baht a month.

Eating Around Nimman
There are so many good places to eat around Nimman that it's pretty hard choice to name a few but for favourite picks are. The smoothy shop for breakfast, Salad Concept for lunch and dinner I'd say Blah Blah Blah because it's got cheap beer, really good live band and spicy hot Thai food. The sausages are the bomb! Oh I recommend the beef salad with Japanese Soy Soauce so good only 110 baht!
